Distance Software is Looking for a Part-Time Software Developer

Hi all,
Some of you may have seen this elsewhere, but I wanted to make sure it was known to the Web414 community.

Part Time Software Developer

Distance Software, a small software company located in Bay View, is looking for a part-time Software Developer to assist with a variety of software projects. We offer a flexible schedule to accommodate coursework. Salary is competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Distance Software is conveniently located on the bus line.

This is an entry-level position with the possibility to transition to Full-Time. This is a direct hire position and NOT a contracting position. This position will average 15-20 hours per week to start. Duties will include a wide variety of programming and design tasks based on the current workload of the company. The developer will be given specific instructions of tasks to complete, but much of the decision-making with regard to implementation will be left to the developer, with input from a supervisor. They will be expected to research alternatives and provide reasoned justifications of their choices. Developers will also be encouraged to seek out new approaches, tools, and sources of information to increase their knowledge, and to provide the best possible solutions to customers.

The Ideal Candidate:

* Has completed the basic and intermediate courses in computer science curriculum, or has equivalent experience.
* Possesses a strong knowledge of software design theory, algorithms, and implementation techniques.
* Has demonstrated ability to produce applications written in one of Java, C++, C#, PHP or Ruby. Facility with more than one is preferred.
* Is enthusiastic about acquiring new skills and using cutting edge technologies to build real world applications and solve customer problems.

Special consideration will be given to candidates with coursework or experience in databases, computer networks and web application technologies including DHTML, Javascript, AJAX, Ruby on Rails and PHP.

Interested candidates should send resume, cover letter, brief code sample, and preferred home and school contact information by April 10th jobs@distancesoftware.com . Distance Software is an equal opportunity employer.
