Purpose / Audience statement for Web414.com ?

At our meeting on December 14, 2006, we discussed a bit the need to have an opening purpose statement for the Web414.com site itself, as people will be finding it through search engines and other references.

Pete pointed out an important aspect of Web414.com: it is not a user group for learning how to use the Web, but a group of people working in building the Web. Perhaps we could toss around ideas for a purpose statement that reflects this.

Here is a rough idea of what I alluded to in the meeting:

Web414.com brings together builders of the Web in the Milwaukee area. These builders include those who:

  • work on implementing Web sites, software, services, and applications
  • design Web site layout, graphics, or hypertext organization
  • manage, plan, support, or train people for Web-based projects
  • analyze and understand Web uses and audiences for publishing, advertising, and ecommerce
  • innovate and do research in Web-related technologies

My point is that Web414.com certainly can support the strong depth of experience its members have in implementation (coding, etc.) but also involve people with interest in the broader study of Web-based computer-mediated communication including sociological and cultural aspects. For example, the work of these research groups could also be of interest in shedding light on building the Web.

First attempt

Web414 - Milwaukee's Web Community: The Web414 group consists of amateurs and professionals interested in building and improving the web today and in the future. We are a diverse group including designers, programmers, publishers, and entrepreneurs - all with a common interest in creating the new web.

Re: First attempt

Yes, this is a good paragraph. "Milwaukee's Web Community" as tagline is very good. The description includes the many tasks. Does everyone see themselves represented in one or more of these categories (any missing?).

By "new web," do you mean Web 2.0?

New Web

Well, it could mean "Web 2.0" but I didn't want to come out and say "Web 2.0"

I thought "new web" worked because it implies the future, newness, on the web, etc. ;)
